In the last six years I’ve been analyzing the chemicals in my life that I come into contact with on a daily basis. I began to worry about what I was putting on my body. I started to make other small manageable changes like eating more organically even though it was more expensive. I started using essential oils to replace my perfume. Something then fell into my lap called Norwex. This is a direct retail company that created safe cleaning products. Norwex is concerned about the environment and the chemicals getting into our skin when we clean. They came up with all kinds of products that are better for the environment and ourselves. I went crazy! I was so excited about this company trying to make everything healthier for our lifetime and our children’s future.
I continue down that road of promoting Norwex products and Essential Oils. I continue to do this because I believe in what they’re trying to do in removing chemicals from all of our cleaning products and skin care.
Recently, I ran across a company that was doing something about the skincare industry and make up industry. This company was started by a woman, Gregg Renfrew, who really has passion for getting laws passed so that beauty companies will be forced to reduce the harmful chemicals in their products.
Beauty experts say that we use 200 chemicals before we walk out of the door in the morning. I believe this is true because there is about 15 to 20 chemicals on each product that we use in the morning. I use face serum, face lotion, face cleaner, foundation, mascara, eyeshadow, blush and toothpaste just to name a few. I’m sure you do too. I use so many products in the morning that it can easily add up to 200 chemicals.
This extremely interesting company is called Beautycounter. I went to a business meeting (I’m actually in IT) and one of my girlfriends told me that she was selling this product. My first thought was “Ok, this is another direct sales company that’s popped up and it’s another one of those things”. Well, then, I thought I would support her and I purchased some foundation called Skin Tint since I was looking for a more natural foundation anyway. I was a little appauled at the price but I wanted to support my friend AND I heard the word “NATURAL” used so I was willing to try it. I already spend lots of money for over the counter products so I thought I would invest in myself and get something better for me.
When I brought the skin tint home I tried it out and I really liked how light it was. It was not heavy like my over-the-counter stuff is. It felt so light on my skin and spread around quite easily and evenly. My skin almost felt fresh that I wasn’t quite used to after putting my other cakey foundation on. At the same time, I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. I was so used to my other foundation that I went back to it the next day and only to realize how heavy it was. I realized the over-the-counter product made my pores look deep and the lines on my face more creased. Yuck. I am over 40. So after about a week of using my own version of foundation I decided to try the Beautycounter Skin Tint again. I put it on one morning and thought to myself how easily it went on and again how light it was.
Later that day, after using the restroom, I caught myself walking out of the bathroom taking a quick peek at my face and I noticed something different that made me stop for a double take on my face. When I glanced into the mirror I took a closer look and I didn’t see the pores that I saw when I was using the other over the counter brand. It was hard to pinpoint what was different. I wondered if my face almost looks just slightly younger? I know that’s hard to believe and wishful thinking, but it looked different.
So this started me thinking wow, I really like this product! But I thought I wasn’t ready to jump into the business. Then I was invited by my friend to attend her social for the Minnesota women in SharePoint and we gathered at her apartment. There’s only a couple of us and I had to tell her my story about that Skin Tint. Change is hard and so this was kind of a big deal. I was so amazed by the product in fact I started to tell people about it including my mother.
When I told my mother about the company she bought $100 worth of products and I wasn’t even selling it yet!! So, at my friends party I bought three more products. I purchased the mascara because I’m always trying different mascara. FINALLY! A safer more healthy mascara to put on my eyes. I also purchased the Dew Skin Tint because it contains SPF! Lastly, I bought the Purifying Charcoal Mask to try.
At this time, I am already a consultant for Essential Oils to make my perfume, a Norwex consultant for cleaning products and wasn’t about to become yet ANOTHER consultant for another company. I received my products in the mail and was shocked at how fast the delivery time was. I was excited to try the Dew Skin Tint because it has moisturizer with the SPF so it’s great for summer time when the sun is hitting my forehead during lunch. I also tried the mask and it was simply amazing. You can find out my story about the charcoal mask under the Purifying Charcoal Mask page.
I enjoyed my products for another week but, during that week I was haunted by the urge to promote this product and become a part of the movement to get better beauty products into the hands of everyone including myself! And MEN too! I let it sit for about a week and I told my friend that I didn’t want to get into the business, but, good luck to her. I thought about it day after day after day and realized, oh my gosh, I don’t want to miss out on this opportunity. This is something exciting and I totally believe in in this product. Not to mention what the company is trying to do with the industry.
How many other skin care companies are stepping up by taking on Congress to get laws changed about the chemicals that are in our products to make them more safe. How many beauty companies do you see telling Congress to make their own restrictions more restricted? That told me a lot right there about who and what I want to work with!! Not only is Beautycounter pulling out all those nasty chemicals that cause cancer and make hormones to go wacko, they are adding healing ingredients that will improve our skin rather than hurt us and that’s the part that’s got me excited!
So, here I am, a consultant of several health conscious companies, not to mention how fun it is to promote high performing products and proud to help people use safe products in their lives and the lives of the people they care about. I hope you can get good information from this site. Feedback is highly welcome. Thank you for reading.
